Also according to the Bureau, there are at least 5 things you should when you're in Boulder:  Shop, Eat, See Green, Bike/Hike along Boulder Creek and, of course, Be Inspired!  Boulder is home to the National Center for Atmospheric Research or NOAA and the Naropa Institute, and has a population of over 102,500, including approximately 25,000 students at The University of Colorado (CU).

Shopping in Boulder will be exciting with Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall, an outdoor pedestrian mall in historic downtown Boulder, and the 29th Street Mall along U.S. Highway 36.   Eating is also an adventure, with world-class restaurants that feature local, regional, and international cuisine.  Seeing Green is really just a way of life in Boulder as residents religiously recycle, restaurants offer organic fare, and people embrace the green, open-space system that encircles the city.

The open-space program has resulted in a 1% city-imposed limit on housing growth in Boulder, an environmentally-friendly feature that also supports the Boulder real estate market.  Photo By Charles Pfeil-www.Arrowphotos.comBiking and Hiking along Boulder’s miles of trails is a common sight here, and it’s hard to find a road in Boulder that isn’t biker-friendly.  Boulder annually hosts the “Bolder Boulder”, one of the largest 10K’s in the country.  Boulder Creek is a local landmark and also offers a tranquil reminder that you’re in paradise!  With all that Boulder has to offer, being inspired is really not much of a challenge.  The arts and cultural communities thrive in Boulder, in part because it is such an inspiring place to live, work, and play.

The Arapahoe Indian tribe and their Chief Niwot (which means “Left Hand”), as well as the Cheyenne were indigenous to the area, and other tribes such as the Comanche, Sioux, Kiowa, and Ute also visited this area.  When you visit Boulder, you will see why so many Native Americans called this place home, and why the Boulder area remains so popular today.

The eventual arrival of two railroads and The University of Colorado in Boulder, were both important events that really marked the beginning of what came to be known as Boulder.  The area has evolved into a fairly cosmopolitan city that prides itself as being a progressive, eco-friendly place to live.  In addition to the growth limitations, the city has also implemented a Transportation Plan that is designed to prevent any increase in the number of cars on the roads.  These kinds of programs and philosophies are not found in every city in America, but the Boulder-area residents are proud of the direction their city has taken and that pride has translated positively into the Boulder real estate market.
