Broomfield, Colorado

Broomfield, CO | Broomfield Homes For SaleBroomfield, CO got its start in the 1870's when it was just a rail stop between Denver and Cheyenne, Wyoming.  Adolph J. Zang, whose father owned the Zang Brewery in Denver, bought 4,000 acres from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1885 and began farming.  The community eventually became known as Zang's Spur and by about 1900, had about 50 residents.  It was later named after the local farms' major crop, broom corn, which was used to make, what else . . . brooms.

Today, with an estimated 56,000 residents living in approximately 33 square miles, the Broomfield real estate market features a robust residential, commercial and industrial community.  Commercial growth has exploded with the opening of the Flatiron Crossing Mall just off U.S. Highway 36.  Neighboring that development is the Interlocken Business Park, which is home to some of the area's largest employers such as Sun Microsystems, Level 3 Communications, Ball Aerospace Corporation, Hunter Douglas, and the City and County of Broomfield.

Broomfield offers an extensive, interconnected system of parks and paths, with over 66 miles of trails, 700 acres of developed parks, and 45 playgrounds.  In addition, Broomfield also features a community center, outdoor water park, ball-park complex and the new Broomfield Event Center.  In order to maintain the close-knit neighborhood spirit they've achieved over the years, Broomfield has been planned to control growth and to ensure the quality of its residential areas.

According to city-data.com, Broomfield’s 2008 Cost-of-Living Index was 97.2 (U.S. Average = 100), and mean home prices in 2007 were:  $284,482 for all units; Detached houses $311,443, Attached houses $240,969, 2-unit structures $498,506.  Broomfield's proximity to both Boulder and Denver is one of the many things that makes it an attractive place to live.

Located just 8 miles southeast of Boulder, the city was originally incorporated with about 4,500 residents back in 1961.  Most recently, it became Broomfield County as well as a city on November 15, 2001.  Please contact us with any questions you may have or to see any Broomfield MLS listing.  The folowing map will give you an idea of Broomfield's location; it's also interactive, move it around with your mouse or click "View Larger Map" under the bottom left-hand corner.
