Erie, Colorado
Erie, CO was settled around 1867 and was officially incorporated in 1874. Situated less than 25 minutes from downtown Denver using I-25 and about 20 minutes east of Boulder, the Erie real estate market is located close to some of Colorado's major business and population centers, as well as premier educational and research facilities.
Erie covers about 17.5 square miles but its planning area is approximately 48 square miles, and the 2009 Census figures estimate the population was 17,256. Once home to coal mines, railroads, and agriculture, Erie is enjoying revitalization. Several new-home communities have sprung up in the last few years, offering a diversity of housing and a median home price of about $310,000.
Erie straddles the Boulder-Weld County line about eight miles east of Boulder, and is a vibrant community comprised of many friendly neighborhoods. The small-town, rural feel is one of its best attributes, yet you can travel to major metropolitan cities like Denver, Ft. Collins, or Boulder within just a few minutes. There are some fabulous Mountain views from Erie as well.
One of the friendliest spots in Erie is the Historic Downtown Business District, home of eclectic businesses, eateries, and host to some of the most colorful annual events. The Erie Town Fair, the High School Homecoming Parade, the Erie 10k Halloween race, Biscuit Day, and Oktoberfest are just a few.
Like most areas along Northern Colorado's Front Range, the quality of life for Erie residents is outstanding, with over 300 days of sunshine per year; residents take full advantage of the wonderful weather at Erie's new 18-hole championship golf course and enjoy the 63,000 square foot Erie Community Center, the 20,000 square foot Library, and the new 41-acre Erie Community Park. Kids of all ages enjoy the Town's Skate Park and other outdoor entertainment.
According to city-data.com, Erie’s 2008 Cost-of-Living Index was 100 (U.S. Average = 100), and mean home prices in 2007 were: $373,687 for all units; Detached houses $382,849, Attached houses $178,022.
In addition to new-home development changing the local landscape, the completion of the Northwest Parkway with E-470, located just two miles from Erie, cut travel time to Denver International Airport (DIA) down from an hour to about thirty-five minutes. The Erie Municipal Airport provides a full range of services for corporate and general aircraft.
